Our Philosophy
Kudo is best summed up by the simple phrase “Take what works and leave the rest behind.”
At New England Kudo, we strive to apply this philosophy to all aspects of our training and teaching. Our training is guided by three commitments:
Scientific
We embrace an evidence-based approach to training. We take an active interest in teaching well.
Playful
Evidence shows that we learn best when we’re in the zone, having fun. Game-based training and problem solving improves learning outcomes and reduces injuries.
Inclusive
We value the diversity and uniqueness of our community. Intolerance, bigotry and asshole behaviour is not welcome in this dojo.
Sensei Jim
“Welcome to New England Kudo. I’m Jim, the club’s head instructor and a recognised branch chief for the Kudo International Federation.
Like many people, I came to Kudo with a background in other martial arts. For me, this included Kickboxing, Japanese and Brazillian Jiujitsu, Shotokan Karate and Krav Magar. I migrated to the US with my wife in 2022. I was devastated that Kudo hadn’t made it to New England, so quickly got started creating the region’s first Kudo dojo.
I’ve got a soft spot for Kudo’s fusion of the traditional with the contemporary. I value evidence based approaches to teaching, learning, and combat. I get joy from the ageless pursuit of becoming a better martial artist and helping others to do the same. Kudo helps me bring my passions together and share them with others:
- Kudo Black Belt (Kudo International Federation)
- Krav Magar Black Belt (Gendai Ryu Krav Magar)
- Brazillian Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt
- 10 years coaching Karate, Krav Magar, Kickboxing
- Providing corporate security, safety and defense training
- PhD in Behavioural Science
I hope you’ll join me for the next leg of your martial arts journey.
Cheers”
